Chronic sinusitis remedies chicago
Chronic sinus congestion and infections are due to persistent inflammation of the tissues inside the nose and the paranasal sinuses. Sinuses are cavities within several of the facial and cranial bones. Each sinus has an opening into the nose for drainage of any mucos produced by the tissue lining each sinus. Normally, the sinuses are filled with air. However, when these openings (called ostia) become blocked by inflamed or infected tissues, mucos builds up within the sinus, causing pressure or facial pain. In addition, bacteria may build up within the sinus, leading to a sinus infection. Surgery may be necessary when the ostia are chronically blocked, causing persistent symptoms of sinus congestion, facial pain, or facial swelling.
Fortunately, there are many options for chronic sinusitis remedies. Chicago Otolaryngologists (Doctors who specialize in the treatment of diseases of the ears, nose, throat and other areas of the head and neck) at the Advanced Center for Specialty Care are experienced in treating all types of sinus disorders. Most commonly, the first step is nonsurgical sinusitis treatment in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood or at Dr. Michael Friedman’s additional office downtown. There are numerous sprays and irrigations that can be prescribed to treat symptoms of chronic sinusitis. Nasal sinus treatment in Chicago may also incorporate allergy testing. There are many allergens in the air that may be causing the nasal irritation and inflammation that leads to these symptoms. Dr. Ayesha Sidiqqi, an allergist and immunologist at the Advanced Center for Specialty Care, can determine if allergy medication should be a part of your treatment plan.
When medications cannot alleviate your symptoms or recurrent problems with sinus infection, surgery may be recommended by your doctor. Dr. Micheal Friedman and Dr. TK Venkatasen perform several types of nasal and sinus surgeries. The goal of surgery is to open up the sinus drainage pathways buy enlarging the sinus ostia and removing inflamed or infected tissues within the nose and sinuses. The severity of disease and each individual’s anatomy will determine what type of sinus infection surgery is performed.
